A strong local economy starts with strong local leaders. Jackson CEO is helping shape that future by giving Jackson County high school students the tools, connections, and confidence to become tomorrow’s entrepreneurs.
Instead of sitting behind a desk for a business class, Jackson CEO students spend their year visiting local businesses, hearing directly from community leaders, and getting an inside look at how local businesses operate. It is learning by doing in the heart of their own community.
Launched in 2015, the year-long entrepreneurial leadership program is part of the National Network of CEO Chapters and follows the Creating Entrepreneurial Opportunities model developed by the Midland Institute for Entrepreneurship.
During the first semester, the class works together to build and run a business or money-generating venture together. In the second semester, each student develops and launches their own individual business – where they talk with a real banker and make their pitch to receive a small loan. This immersive model helps students build confidence, think creatively, and apply real problem-solving skills that will serve them well in any career path.
One of Jackson CEO’s greatest strengths is its mentorship network. Local business owners and professionals guide students, answer questions, and open doors to opportunity, creating connections that often last long beyond the program.
Throughout the year, students also strengthen essential skills like communication, teamwork, time management, and leadership. Many alumni describe Jackson CEO as a pivotal point that helped them clarify their goals, whether they choose college, the workforce, or entrepreneurship.
The program thrives because the community stands behind it. Local businesses, nonprofits, and civic partners invest financially and volunteer their time to ensure students have every opportunity to learn and grow.
For students eager to explore entrepreneurship in a supportive, real-world environment, Jackson CEO offers a truly unique experience. Participants leave with practical business experience, valuable professional networks, and the confidence to lead and innovate right here in the communities they call home.
